About the event

MASTERCLASS: WRITING QUEER AND TRANS CHARACTERS

In this dynamic masterclass, Charlotte will offer a number of exercises and advice for writing queer and trans characters. Drawing upon her own experience of writing queer characters in different genres and forms, Charlotte will suggest methodologies and tools for portraying an individual’s experience authentically and will be able to answer any questions about the process. Attendees will also be able to start writing their own piece with an LGBTQ+ protagonist and will have the opportunity to share it with their peers for constructive feedback in a safe and supportive environment.

Charlotte Byrne is an author and teaching fellow from Chatham. She writes across genres and forms and is currently working on her PhD project, which is a novel exploring the experiences of queer Catalan women during the Spanish Civil War. Her debut novel Folked Up was published by Crystal Peake in
