'The real Lion Queen': Local History Talk by Pauline Holmes

 

In advance of a new run of Pauline Holmes' play 'The Lion Queen' at March at The Oasthouse Theatre in Rainham, we are delighted to to host a talk by Pauline about the origins of the story on Saturday 7 February.

 

16-year-old Ellen Blight was dubbed the “Lion Queen” in her lifetime for taming and exhibiting the big cats at her uncle George’s famous ‘Wombwell’s Travelling Menagerie’ which toured the country, Ellen died in Chatham after a local performance, mauled by one of her big cats.
